Built by the Danish “Sun King”, Christian IV between 1619 and 1640 in the style of the Dutch Renaissance, Copenhagen’s stock exchange must be one of the most beautiful Renaissance buildings in northern Europe. The 54 m high tower, whose tip is formed by the intertwined tails of 4 dragons, is unique throughout the world. The building has always been used for its present purpose and is therefore one of the oldest stock exchanges in the world. Many legends are centred around this building, including how the royal builder managed to give the domed roof its green patina in such a short space of time. The explanation is that he allocated everybody on the building site a special ration of wine every day which created the necessary conditions for speeding up the chemical process enormously.
