Far away from the centres of Tuscany, surrounded by chestnut woods and vineyards, is the house where Michelangelo was born. Caprese Michelangelo is a small town of around 2000 inhabitants. Michelangelo’s father was sent to the small town of Caprese Michelangelo for 6 months by the municipal authorities of Florence. He was accompanied by his heavily pregnant wife. On March 6th, 1475, Michelangelo Buonarotti came into the world in a typical Tuscan country house and was baptised in the local church one month later. The family returned to Florence, and Michelangelo’s birthplace was forgotten. It was not until many years later that documents were found. The house has been renovated and now contains a small museum about the life and work of the artist.
