These compact, manoeuvrable ships, that one would not credit at all their enormous engine power of up to 20,000 HP, are especially employed in harbours in order to drag or tow large ships when their manoeuvrability does not suffice. Modern ships are, however, usually fitted with bow thrusters which allow them to turn on the spot under their own steam.
