This white sprinter of the rails, the fastest and most modern train in Germany, has sped regularly between major towns in Germany since 1991. Able to travel at speeds of up to 280 km/h on newly built stretches, it has brought about a renaissance in rail traffic in Germany. It broke the magic figure of 100 million passengers as early as 1997 and was appreciated by travellers for quicker journeys and comfort while on board. Train passengers in Austria can also enjoy this new age when they travel on the daily ICE connection between Vienna and Hamburg.
