This typical goods train locomotive was a refinement of the reliable 50 series developed by a team of German locomotive manufacturers, with the Viennese factory in Floridsdorf playing a particularly important role. It was designed for wartime service and held its own for a long time in those areas occupied by the German Wehrmacht. It was particularly highly rated in the Russian campaign where many locomotives were destroyed. The Soviet army captured the rest as booty and they were used for many years by the Soviet State Railway. Production started in1942. The locomotive had 1,500 HP and reached a speed of 80 km/h.
