On the right banks of the Dniester in the Republic of Moldova you will find the young town of Soroca which dates back to the 18th century but which got its name from the historically important fortress built on the spot in 1553. It is very likely that there were fortresses here before that date as ancient trade routes leading from Central Europe to the Crimea, Caucasus and Central Asia passed close by. The fortress in Soroca provided protection to traders on these routes. A total of 44,000 individual bricks made out of the original sandy limestone were used in the model which was built in the Ukraine.
