This locomotive came into service as early as 1938 and was one of the first to have an independent axle drive, a pioneering innovation in locomotive construction. Its hourly capacity is 1,840 kW, it weighs 83 tonnes and can reach a top speed of 80 km/h. As a multi-purpose locomotive it was used for passenger and goods trains as well as for shunting. After many decades of successful operation, it has more or less disappeared from Austrian railway lines.
